BRIDGETOWNE yoU

Hello to any and all of Bridgetowne Hobby and Games’ customers and friends !

My name is Bill Daemke, I am the owner of this fine palace of wonders and dreams.

This is the inaugural input for those of you who HAVE given our people your email address so that we can look forward to progressing in this computer-heavy age with a continuation of the hobbyist…

I have threatened to lead a course in the art of Wooden Ship modelling for beginners.

Place February 25 on your calendar. Say, about 12:15 for our inaugural course!

I am putting the final touches on our BRIDGETOWNE yoU course. I’ve been in touch with a number of our suppliers with an eye to a great deal on a rather complete beginner model ship, and I’m likely to get a great package deal which will contain virtually everything for the course. Our target is the whole shebang for substantially less than a hundred dollars.

I think we should all start with the same basic kit… and we will get started on day one, you’ll be able to take home your stuff and work on it at your place….then, we will have another date where we take a look at where we are, say a week later, same time, etc, and continue on in other areas of the wooden ship we will be constructing.

When I started, way back when… I recall there were areas I screwed-up rather nicely, and my intent….as your “professor” is to assist you through this project so that you gain confidence and your skills improve and who knows, we plan on hosting many visiting “professors” in a variety of classes on virtually any number of the many wonders of modelling!!! I send this missive out to you as anyone who may have an interest in our art contact any of the people here at Bridgetowne on whatever yoU

may wish to expound on.

Topics we will be looking for help on can include..

  1. Proper Decalling
  2. Weathering effects
  3. Phohoetch tips
  4. Forming wooden planking
  5. Improving Phohoetch realism
  6. Friulmodel Track building
  7. Shadowing effects in painting
  8. Gaming terrain-building
  9. Ship rigging techniques
  10. Painting your figures and many other items of interest.

Our aim is to provide yoU with a positive experience in your hobby, be is gaming ships, vehicles, or scratchbuilding.

The II. SS-Panzer-Korps
and the road to Prochorowka
July 1943

George Nipe, author of “Last Victory in Russia” and “Decision in the Ukraine”, has written a revealing and unprecedented re-analysis of the II.SS-Panzer-Korps’ operations during the Battle of Kursk in the summer of 1943. Unlike all previous books on the subject, which refer almost exclusively to Russian accounts of the battle, “Blood, Steel and Myth” makes extensive use of original German source material. In so doing he convincingly exposes the conventional wisdom, which through its constant repetition over the years has assumed mythic status, as being fundamentally flawed and patently untrue.

Based principally on Heer and Waffen-SS combat and intelligence reports from the southern sector of the Kursk salient, as well as the individual accounts of veterans, the book covers in detail the daily progress of Operation Citadel. With meticulous attention to detail the author illustrates the unfavorable circumstances and erroneous command decisions which irrevocably doomed Germany’s last major offensive in Russia to failure.

The personal notes, conversations and official orders of Generals Hausser, Hoth, and Manstein are all closely scrutinized to shed new light on this much celebrated but incorrectly recounted clash of arms, with particular attention being paid to the “greatest tank battle in history” at Prochorovka. With “Blood, Steel and Myth” George Nipe sets the record straight with all the conviction of an Eastern Front historian whose veracity and impeccable scholarship have been proven time and again.

”Blood, Steel and Myth” is heavily illustrated with hundreds of photos (many previously unpublished) and numerous maps to provide a strong visual component to this unique account of the Kursk Offensive’s Southern Front.

The book, a new arrival at Bridgetowne….BLOOD STEEL and MYTH, by George M Nipe.

If you are any student of the great battle at KURSK you will require this book.

I use require not lightly, as in my personal world of quality books, I think I have every English-print book in existence, and a few in foreign languages.

The quality photographs alone will make this a good addition to any library for military modelers and the text will reinforce the shift of the number of machines which met on that fated July 12 near that meaningless town of Prochorwka.

The author, George M Nipe skillfully develops a case so strongly that you will shift your allegiance to this as THE definitive work on the SS challenges and how the Grossdeutschlands’ failure in both judgement and method began a series of initiative failures which fated the German effort.

Many first-person activities bring this action, complex as it was, to where you begin to sympathise with Hoth, and Manstein as, great as the effort, nature, and the Russian determination, backed by unlimited reserves caused this failure.

I read many years ago The Tigers are Burning…it was, and still is a great read. I currently am finishing Zamulins’ Demolishing the Myth, same story….the records of the Russians fanciful claims of the sheer numbers of German tanks destroyed will be amply demonstrated .

If there is one book you have on this pivotal short effort…this is THE book. And its a really good read, to boot.

The 1950s and 1960s are known as an era that witnessed a boom of race car transporters, which are being re-discovered today and held in a high regard. The two similar-looking transporters of the Scuderia Ferrari and Maserati might well be the most famous and technically most mature transporters of those days.

They were mounted on Fiat-bus chassis of the type 642 RN2. With an open body work designed by Bartoletti, the resultant transporter was good for hauling three race cars.

At first sight, those two transporters, equipped with a 92 hp diesel in-line-engine, look alike except for paintwork and decals. But upon a closer look, they differ in a considerable number of details. Back in those days, it took a transporter to haul race cars to the race track from time to time.
But transporters were not limited to hauling a precious freight only. They had quite a few other functions, too. In each of the transporters, a small but complete inspection bay was set up. It was also used as the crew quarters. This was where the head-quarters were located, in addition to providing a crew space and a sleeping berth during the hectic race weekends. Many crew members spent the majority of their time working in and around those race car transporters. It virtually became a second home for them.
